Friedrich Christian Paldamus (born August 7, 1763 in Opperode ; † March 17, 1806 ) was a German Reformed theologian and clergyman .

Life

Friedrich Christian Paldamus was the son of a pastor of the same name in Rieder (1732-1804), who later became councilor of the consistory and superintendent and died in Bernburg . The father taught Paldamus the sciences and the ancient languages, after which he attended the cathedral school in Halberstadt from 1776 to 1782 . Then he moved to the University of Halle .

From 1785 Paldamus lived in Vienna. For a few years he was the tutor of the three sons of an imperial count von der Lippe. Since then he has been preaching to the Reformed congregation in Dresden .

In 1792 Paldamus became an assistant to pastor Mesmer in the Dresden Reformed community. During this time he made friends with him and also married his daughter.

Mesmer's health later declined, so he transferred the pastorate to Paldamus. He held this office until his death in 1806 at the age of 42.

Paldamus' son of the same name lived from April 29, 1796 to June 1, 1835 and later became second pastor in Dresden.

Act

Paldamus administered the Dresden pastor with zeal and loyalty. He had a good knowledge of theology, but also beyond. Some of his poems published in journals also testify to his good taste. These poems, which he wrote in previous years, were well received. They weren't very important to him, which is why he didn't sign them with his name.

In addition to journal articles, Paldamus has written three independent works. Two of them are sermon collections. Samuel Baur (1768–1832) praised this collection for its "natural flow of ideas, luminous presentation and noble language". His third work, published in 1800, contained prayers for the service for preachers in Anhalt-Bernburg .

Works

  • Ten sermons, mostly of moral content (Dresden 1793)
  • Prayers and forms for use in public worship, for the preachers of the Principality of Anhalt-Bernburg (Bernburg 1800)
  • Sermons for friends of Christian wisdom and virtue from educated classes (Dresden 1805; also second toe sermons )
