On the first day there was a mountain stage on which seven mountain ratings were carried out. The section finally ended after a 14.3 kilometer climb on the Col de L'Ospédale . This stage should already bring a preliminary decision in the overall classification.

On the following Sunday morning, a 75-kilometer flat stage around Porto-Vecchio was on the program. In the afternoon, the race in the same city ended with a flat seven-kilometer individual time trial.

Race course

On the first mountain stage, the German Jens Voigt, as the last member of the breakaway group of the day, from which Pim Ligthart laid the foundation for his victory in the mountain classifications, was overtaken at the foot of the Col de l'Ospedale by a group of around 20 men . After further attacks, including from his brother Andy , Fränk Schleck ( Leopard Trek ) pulled away, only the Estonian Rein Taaramae from Cofidis was able to stay on his rear wheel until Wassil Kiryjenka ( Movistar Team ) also caught up with the front. Schleck had attacked two kilometers earlier and won by 16 seconds ahead of Kiryjenka, who overtook Taaramae by four seconds.

As expected, the flat section ended in a mass sprint the following day, which German Simon Geschke from the Dutch team Skil-Shimano won and thus celebrated his first professional victory. In the final time trial in the afternoon, Andreas Klöden ( Team RadioShack ) won another German. Klöden referred the British specialists Bradley Wiggins and Jakob Fuglsang to their places. Fränk Schleck defended the yellow jersey in twelfth place, although he lost seven seconds to Kiryjenka, who was second and best on points. Rein Taaramae finished the tour in third place and secured the white jersey of the best young driver.
