Friedrich Dierig jun. (* March 13, 1845 in Langenbielau , Silesia ; † February 20, 1931 there ) was a German textile manufacturer .

Life

Friedrich Dierig jun., Son of Friedrich senior, was born one year after the weavers' revolt . His grandfather, Christian Dierig , came from an old weaving family . In 1805 he laid the foundation stone for the Dierig textile company. As early as 1842 he employed over 4,000 hand weavers , bobbins and dyers in the Silesian Langenbielau and the surrounding area ; most of them were homeworkers. At that time only linen was used . The losses caused by the weaver revolt in the summer of 1844 prompted the company founder to withdraw from the business. The next generation, the sons Wilhelm and Friedrich Sr., had to do new building work. That also meant: mechanical looms and cotton processing . Friedrich Dierig jun. At the age of 13 he was sent to the Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium in Breslau , which he left with the Abitur in 1864.

He had to break off his law studies at the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University ; But he remained a corps bow carrier of Borussia Breslau , which he had joined in 1864. After the death of his brother Wilhelm, Friedrich sen. his son joined the up-and-coming textile company at the age of 23. Friedrich jun. married Minna Bienert in 1875 , daughter of the industrialist Gottlieb Traugott Bienert from Plauen (Dresden) . Of the five sons from this marriage, Wolfgang and Christian later continued the company Christian Dierig AG. Friedrich Dierig jun. had to retire from the company management in 1906 for health reasons. But at the age of 72 he came back to active company business. In the difficult time after the First World War, he mobilized his employees with energy and new ideas.

Act

In 1868 Friedrich Dierig jun. joined the Gebrüder Dierig company, which was run by his father and which quickly expanded through the establishment of new manufacturing facilities. In 1883 600 looms were working in the mechanical weaving mill. A company health insurance fund was founded in 1888, and a first kindergarten was set up in 1890. In 1895 the first residential buildings for employees were built. After the turn of the century, the number of mechanical looms increased to 1900 through the acquisition of another factory. After a major fire, the construction of a new large weaving mill for 1000 looms began in Gellenau in the county of Glatz in 1905 . 42 residential buildings with 373 apartments were available for employees in 1907. The company was now producing at various locations in Germany and had its own dye works and fabric printing plant. With 15,000 employees, Dierig was one of the largest cotton mills in Europe before the First World War. Friedrich Dierig junior earned special recognition. because of his contribution to the development of paper yarn . In 1917 another mechanical weaving mill was acquired in Augsburg . Today the headquarters of Dierig Holding AG are located here .

The company history published in 1955 reads: Friedrich Dierig jun. was the initiator of the great expansion of our company from 1868 until inflation. Together with his two brothers Georg and Philipp, he turned the Dierig plot into the largest colored weaver and one of the largest outfitters in Germany .
