Friedrich Ernst , full name Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst (born March 26, 1874 in Munich ; † December 17, 1943 in Worms ), was a German pedagogue, local researcher and author.

Live and act

He was the son of Johann Georg Friedrich Ernst, a civil servant in the Bavarian Ministry of Finance and his wife Elise geb. Dippner. Friedrich Ernst attended the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich (1884–1893), studied at the Munich University (1893–1897) and in 1898 entered the Bavarian civil service as a teacher. Initially active at the Lindau Latin School in Lake Constance , he was promoted to rector of the Uffenheim Progymnasium in 1909 and served as the rector of the Grünstadt Progymnasium from 1916 to 1938 , most recently in the rank of senior teacher .

With a strong interest in local history, Friedrich Ernst became involved in the Grünstadt Altertumsverein from 1917 and became its chairman in 1918. Between 1926 and 1934 he published numerous historical articles in the association's publication "Neue Leininger Blätter" . As early as 1919 he had the larger treatise "The documents of Progymnasium concerning Green City the Latin School to Höningen (1573-1630)." Written; in 1927 he published the book "History of Leiningen school to Höningen and Green City 1573-1819" , 1929 Continuation of “The History of the Bavarian Pro-Gymnasium zu Grünstadt 1819–1929” , which became standard works of regional history.

According to the record book of the Altertumsverein available in the Museum Grünstadt, Friedrich Ernst was asked in April 1934 to incorporate the association as chairman into the new “Working Group for National Education” . It was a sub-organization of the Kampfbund for German culture led by Alfred Rosenberg and later became part of the "National Socialist Cultural Community" (NSKG). Since Ernst refused to do this (according to the protocol, he was “unable to be induced ), the city administration under Mayor Fritz Klein took away the museum keys and terminated the lease for the museum. He then resigned voluntarily on May 15, 1934 and his previous deputy, teacher Friedrich Volk, temporarily took over the office. Since he complied with the request, the keys were handed over again, the lease renewed and even more rooms were promised. The sidelined Friedrich Ernst was appointed honorary chairman of the Altertumsverein Grünstadt on February 19, 1936.

On March 17, 1938, Friedrich Ernst retired early at his own request and died in Worms in 1943.

His younger brother was the teacher Georg Ernst (1876–1938), who was also known as a chess player.
