Friedrich Gerschow (* 1568 in Stettin ; † September 6, 1635 in Greifswald ) was a German lawyer and chronicler.

Life

Gerschow came from a family who had immigrated from Holland to Pomerania and whose father Timotheus was princely councilor in Stettin. After studying at the University of Wittenberg and Leipzig University , he became the tutor of Duke Philipp Julius of Pomerania. He accompanied him on a trip through Germany, England, France and Italy and wrote a detailed report about it.

After he visited with Philip Julius various European universities and contacts, among other things Julius Pacius and Theodore Beza had produces, he returned to the Pomeranian Hof, took over in 1604 a professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Greifswald and received his doctorate there in 1606 to the doctor of the rights.

In his position, he called his relative Jakob Gerschow to the University of Greifswald, gave lectures on the institutions, worked on the chronic evaluation of documents on Pomeranian history and published a number of legal publications. In addition to his teaching activities, he was an in-house lawyer at the university and represented the university in legal negotiations.

Gerschow was also rector of Greifswald University for two terms (1617–1618 and 1628–1629).

His chair (then called 'Syndikat') was given in 1636 by David Mevius , son of the Greifswald law professor Friedrich Mevius (1576–1636).
