Friedrich Giesler
Friedrich Theodor Giesler (* 1793 ; † 1870 ) was a merchant in Brühl .
Life
In 1827 Giesler founded the champagne house PA Mumm & Co. together with Gottlieb Mumm , the son of Peter Arnold Mumm , in Reims and one year after his departure in 1838, their own company Giesler & Co. in Avize . After moving to Brühl, he began to develop several brown coal mines around the city, where he acquired Falkenlust Castle in 1832 and the Benden monastery in the Heide district of Brühl from the heirs of the Cologne merchant Everhard Henner in 1844 .
In the course of time, Giesler developed into the largest landowner in Brühl and in the 1840s transferred numerous parcels to the Bonn-Cölner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft for the construction of the railway line between Cologne and Bonn . As a price for his country, he was given priority obligations by the railways, which earned interest at 4% and rose in price. He bequeathed a portion of these priority bonds to the city of Brühl worth 10,000 thalers for the Foundation for the Poor. In 1850 he was the richest citizen in Brühl.
In 1874, Giesler on Uhlstrasse took over all three breweries that existed in Brühl one after the other and began producing their own Giesler- Kölsch beer brand . While the family property was taken over by the Cologne Cathedral Brewery in 1998 and the operating facilities were completely demolished in 2005, the brewery's brewery, which is a listed building, was retained. Today it forms the central point of the Giesler-Galerie shopping center, which opened in 2006 .
Giesler was married to Christiana Lambert, a native of England from Banstead . His daughter Elise Christine Giesler married Wilhelm Graf Mörner in 1858 , who built the Tauwetter house in Bornheim 's Roisdorf district in 1873 , and with whom they had four children.
