Friedrich Hensel (physical chemist)

Friedrich Hensel (born July 16, 1933 in Essen ) is a German physical chemist .

Life

Hensel studied physics at the University of Göttingen until his diploma in 1962. After moving to the physical-chemical institute of the University of Karlsruhe , he received his doctorate there in 1966 under Ernst Ulrich Franck (1920–2004) . After stays abroad at Brown University in Providence and at Tel Aviv University, he completed his habilitation in physical chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe in 1972 . A year later he accepted a professorship for physical chemistry at the Philipps University of Marburg . He stayed here until his retirement in 2001. He completed long research stays in Tel Aviv, Kyōto , Illinois and Sendai .

Hensel has been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 1997 and a corresponding member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts .
