Wigbert School

The Wigbertschule in Hünfeld is a grammar school in the district of Fulda , which accepts students at the beginning of grade 5 and leads to the Abitur in nine years . The name of the Wigbertschule is derived from the school patron St. Wigbert , the first abbot of the Fritzlar monastery , who founded the first school in Hesse in the seventh century.

history

On April 15, 1901, the Wigbert School was opened as the "Episcopal Latin School " with 50 students (only boys) in the sixth (grade 5) in the former Huenfeld town hall under the direction of Wigbert Sondergeld. At Easter in 1907 an Obertertia (class 9) was set up, completing the intended expansion of the school to five classes. At Easter 1907 the city of Hünfeld took over the sponsorship of the school, so it was now called the "Municipal Latin School". At Easter 1924, the school was merged with the municipal high school for girls, which at the time was teaching 52 female students, under a single management and with a common teaching staff, but the teaching division remained in two different school buildings. After Easter 1939, the secondary school was destroyed and a new middle school was built with Rector Dr. phil. Berthold Leinweber as headmaster. With the establishment of an Obersekunda (grade 11) at Easter 1954, the expansion of the grammar school began. At Easter 1957, the first 13 senior primans received their Abitur at the Wigbertschule. On January 1, 1965, the district of Hünfeld took over the sponsorship of the school. In autumn 1969 the school moved into a new school building on Jahnstrasse, which is now used by the Jahnschule (secondary and secondary school). In the fall of 1971 the school reached the full three-course with 27 classes. In the autumn of 1972, the Fulda district took over the school administration with the district reform and the associated dissolution of the Hünfeld district . In the summer of 1975 the school moved again. This time in a new school building, which is located right next to the old building, in the "School Center Hünfeld".
