Friedrich Hoffmann (medic, 1820)

Friedrich Hoffmann (born April 24, 1820 in Nimptsch , † April 8, 1863 in Siegburg ) was a German psychiatrist .

Hoffmann was the son of a physician and attended the Friedrichsgymnasium in Breslau. He then moved to the university there in 1838 to study medicine. He was accused of demagogic activities and therefore went to the University of Berlin for the summer semester of 1841 . There he received his doctorate in 1842 and passed the state examination in 1843. In 1844 he came to Leubus as an assistant doctor in psychiatry .

Hoffmann was appointed director of the newly established mental hospital in Schwetz on April 1, 1854 . After Maximilian Jacobi died, Hoffmann was appointed to the sanatorium in Siegburg in 1859. He died by suicide .

Hoffmann was one of the representatives of modern psychiatry in his time.
