Melchior Josef Bandorf
Melchior Josef Bandorf (also Melchior Bandorf ; born August 12, 1845 in Weyhers ; † December 4, 1901 in Munich ) was a German psychiatrist .
Life
Bandorf studied medicine at the medical faculty of the University of Würzburg and obtained his license to practice medicine in 1870, as well as the degree of Dr. med. with the dissertation on microcephalic brains . He then went to the University of Vienna to continue his studies. He was employed as an assistant doctor in the asylum in St. Gilgenberg near Bayreuth in 1870, in the Irsee District Insane Asylum near Kaufbeuren in 1870/1871 and, after passing the bankruptcy test, from 1871 to 1873 in the Karthaus-Prüll District Insane Asylum . From 1873 he worked first as an assistant doctor, then as a senior physician at the Munich District Insane Asylum under Bernhard von Gudden .
In July 1883, Bandorf was appointed director of the newly founded Gabersee District Insane Asylum near Wasserburg am Inn . After he had found out about the new developments in the field of lunatic asylums in advance on study trips, he was mainly entrusted with the construction of the new asylum, whereby he also created an agricultural facility and workshops. He turned out to be a good administrator of the new institution. Around 1900 he began to have problems with his health and was therefore put into retirement in 1901 . On April 26, 1901, he was awarded the Order of Merit of St. Michael IV Class. From November 1901 he was in inpatient treatment, shortly afterwards he died. His successor was Karl Otto Dees.
Bandorf wrote various biographical sketches of specialist colleagues for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie .
