Friedrich Hotze

Friedrich Hotze (born July 28, 1833 in Mainz , † May 7, 1900 in Trieste ) was an Austro-Hungarian Lieutenant Field Marshal , military writer and teacher.

Life

Hotze was the son of a teacher and came in 1847 from the regiment boys' education center in Hall in Tirol to the regiment Kaiserjäger stationed there . He took part in the campaign of 1849 in Italy as a cadet subordinate. In 1852 he became a lieutenant, then went to war school and became a first lieutenant in 1857 and a captain in the general staff in 1858. In the war of 1859 he received a commendation for Magenta and the Military Cross of Merit for Solferino . He followed Maximilian to Mexico and joined the staff as captain of the Mexican Free Corps. For his services he received the Order of the Iron Crown III. Class . In 1867 he returned to the Austro-Hungarian Army , where he was transferred to the General Staff, where he remained until August 1875. In 1869 he became a teacher at the war school. On December 17, 1870 he was promoted to major, from 1871 he was Professor of Tactics at the Central Infantry Course. But he returned to the troops and joined the 75th Infantry Regiment. He became a lieutenant colonel in November 1875 and in 1877 was given command of the associated reserve regiment. In 1878 he was promoted to colonel and then appointed commander of Infantry Regiment No. 36 in Prague. His successor as commander was Crown Prince Rudolf , in 1879 he came as a commander to Infantry Regiment No. 75 and in 1883 he was transferred as a commander to the 16th Infantry Brigade in Trieste. There he became major general in 1884 and in 1886 commander of the staff officer corps of the 31st Infantry Division and inspector of the army shooting school. In 1888 he was appointed Lieutenant Field Marshal. and in 1889 transferred to Budapest as commander of the 31st Infantry Division , but already in 1890 assigned to the command of the 15th Corps in Sarajevo . Here he retired in 1893 and died on May 7, 1900 in Trieste.

Hotze was successful as a teacher and military writer. He wrote several books and wrote articles for magazines and newspapers. He wrote u. a .:
