Friedrich Hubert Esser

Friedrich Hubert Esser (* 1959 in Grevenbroich ) has been President of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) in Bonn since May 1, 2011 .

Life and work

Esser first completed a dual training as a baker and then passed his Abitur on the second educational path at the Friedrich-Spee-Kolleg in Neuss . From 1983 to 1989 he studied economics at the Technical University of Braunschweig as well as business administration and business education at the University of Cologne . There he worked from 1989 to 1991 as a research assistant at the chair for economic and social education. From 1991 to 2004 he moved within the university to the Research Institute for Vocational Training in Crafts (FBH), which he led from 1998 as managing director and from 2003 as deputy director. In 1997 he did his doctorate at the University of Cologne with the work Profession as a didactic category: Tradition and Innovation . From 1998 to 2005 he was a lecturer at the University of Economics and Social Sciences. In 2004 he took over the management of the “Vocational Education” department at the Central Association of German Crafts in Berlin until he switched to BIBB . Since 2005 he has also been active as an honorary professor in Cologne. His inaugural lecture was entitled "Vocational training in the knowledge society: a challenge for politics and science". When he was inaugurated as the new BIBB President, he was introduced by Federal Education Minister Annette Schavan with the words: "I am delighted that with you the BIBB has a proven specialist in the national and international vocational training system at the top". On October 10, 2011, Esser was awarded the Badge of Honor of the West German Chamber of Crafts .

Friedrich Hubert Esser is married and has two children.
