Fritz Zadow

Fritz Zadow (born May 14, 1862 in Nuremberg ; † November 30, 1926 there ; full name: Friedrich Karl Zadow ) was a German sculptor and medalist .

Life

Zadow was born in Nuremberg as the son of the businessman Alexander Theodor Zadow and his wife Sophia Anna Madlon Zadow. Heller was born. On May 17, 1895 he married the educator Helene Clara Selma Elisabeth Pyper . He first studied at the Nuremberg School of Applied Arts and from 1882 at the Berlin Art Academy under Heinrich Schwabe . From 1885 he completed his training as a master student of Reinhold Begas . In 1893 he returned to Nuremberg and worked there as a freelance artist.

Zadow's artistic work includes medals , reliefs , epitaphs , busts and objects in public spaces. In 1895 he made the Nymphenbrunnen in the middle of Aufseßplatz in Nuremberg on behalf of Maximilian Brust and in 1897 designed the bronze figure on the Burgschmietbrunnen at the corner of Neutorgraben / Burgschmietstrasse in Nuremberg. On behalf of the city of Nuremberg, he made a portrait plaque for the 100th birthday of the philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach. This plaque was inserted into a memorial plaque that was attached to Feuerbach's former house on June 14, 1906 and was re-erected on April 11, 1999 in the form of a memorial stone at the foot of the Rechenberg in Nuremberg. In the same year, on the occasion of the centenary of Nuremberg's affiliation with Bavaria, he designed a double-sided medal, which was then made in both silver and bronze. His portrait medal by Ludwig Feuerbach comes from the same year. Zadow signed the portraits of his medals with the initials "FZ", whereby the "Z" was fitted into the "F". Photographs, documents and work sketches from his estate are in the German Art Archive of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg.
