Friedrich Krafft (born October 13, 1857 ; † April 22, 1936 ) was a German administrative lawyer who was Lord Mayor of Ludwigshafen am Rhein from 1896 to 1920 .

Life

Krafft studied law , doctorate to Dr. jur. and embarked on a civil service career . In 1896 Krafft, who was a government assessor at the time, was appointed full-time mayor. In 1903 he was awarded a first class knight of the Grand Ducal Baden Order of the Zähringer Lion . He held the honorary title of (royal Bavarian) court counselor and was a member of the Mannheim aerospace association "Zähringen" eV, founded in May 1908. In his role as mayor, he was also a member of the board of the Pfalzwerke AG .

Krafft was a member of the SPD . With regard to urban development, he sponsored the talented Jewish architect Markus Sternlieb , who became a city architect in 1911.

Krafft also built the Ludwigshafen city park from the gauge in the south via the “Inselbastei” in the north and the Rhine promenade to the granary north of the “Rheingalerie”. The idyllic park island belonged to the then independent village of Mundenheim until 1898 as "Mundenheimer Wäldchen" and was to be converted into a housing estate. Friedrich Krafft prevented this with his veto against the deforestation of the Rhine bank forest.

A square in the south district is named after him. He was also an honorary citizen of Ludwigshafen.
