The district borders in the north on Hochstraße Nord , which marks the border with the northern inner city . In the east the Rhine forms the border to Mannheim . In the west the railway line from Ludwigshafen to Schifferstadt connects and in the south the district borders on Mundenheim .

With the Pfalzbau , the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum , the Staatsphilharmonie , the cultural center das HAUS, the Ernst-Bloch-Zentrum and the Bgm.-Reichert-Haus, most of the city's cultural institutions are located in the southern inner city.

In addition, the Ludwigshafen am Rhein police headquarters are located in the southern city center, as is the tax office , the Lusanum health center and the main headquarters of the Pfalzwerke . The Südweststadion is also located in the south district.

With the main train station and the Ludwigshafen (Rhein) Mitte train station, as well as the central transfer station at Berliner Platz, the district has a dense public transport network.

The Ludwigshafen city park on the " Parkinsel " offers space for relaxation and every year in summer the possibility of spiritual refreshment through the Festival of German Films and the cultural festival "Inselsommer" until 2012 and again from 2018.
