Necessary turn

The emergency turnaround is part of Ludwigshafen - Oggersheim , which was built in the 1930s as a BASF factory settlement .

In 1933 IG Farben began building the Notwende settlement. In the second construction phase were u. a. 30 houses built for the city of Oggersheim and eight houses for the two Oggersheim breweries. In 1935 the settlement was the largest factory settlement in Germany. On March 14, 1936, the city council of Oggersheim decided to name the settlement "Notwende", since the construction of the settlement averted the greatest (housing) need for the residents.

With the new development area Melm , the area was greatly expanded in the 1990s. Today around 4800 people live in the Notwende and around 2800 in the Melm, which was only 50% built on.
