from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Lang (born September 6, 1913 in Grötzingen ; † March 9, 2004 in Tübingen ) was a German pastor and theologian . From 1956 to 1970 he was Ephorus of the Tübingen monastery .

Live and act

Friedrich Lang studied Protestant theology at the Tübingen monastery. He was considered a down-to-earth Wuerttemberg priest. After seven years of military service and imprisonment, he obtained his doctorate in theology in 1951 in Tübingen with a thesis on biblical and religious history.

From 1951 to 1956 he taught the New Testament at the Wuppertal Church University . From 1956 to 1970 he was Ephorus of the Evangelical Monastery in Tübingen. After the rejection of a call to Göttingen, he was professor for the New Testament at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen from 1962 until his retirement in 1979.

Friedrich Lang achieved scientific merit primarily through his commentary on Paul's letters to the Corinthians . As a member of the Württemberg regional synod , he successfully campaigned for women to become pastors.

He worked intensively in a commission of the Evangelical Church in Germany on the revision of the Luther Bible. His focus was on the New Testament. His sermon meditations are regarded as cabinet pieces of an exegetically and hermeneutically responsible interpretation of the scriptures.

Friedrich Lang found his final resting place in the Bergfriedhof in Tübingen . Oswald Bayer described him in his obituary as a lovable person who exuded great confidence. Openness and willingness to listen, reliability and kindness characterized him, according to Bayer, as well as a modesty based on the commitment to the cause of theology, to which any professorial vanity was alien.
