Friedrich Niethammer (Public Prosecutor)

Friedrich Niethammer (born January 19, 1942 in Ludwigsburg ; † July 15, 1996 in Heilbronn ) was a public prosecutor and a long-time member of the Heilbronn municipal council. A few days before his death, he was made an honorary citizen of Heilbronn in 1996. The Friedrich Niethammer Foundation named after him primarily supports projects for children and young people in Heilbronn.

Life

Niethammer was the great, great-great-grandson of the poet and doctor Justinus Kerner . He became a public prosecutor and was a member of the Heilbronn municipal council from 1971 to 1994. He was parliamentary group leader of the SPD and from 1977 to 1996 honorary deputy of the respective mayor of Heilbronn . In 1991 he ran as an opposing candidate against incumbent Manfred Weinmann (CDU) himself for election to mayor, but was defeated. In 1996, three days before his death, he was awarded honorary citizenship in his sick bed. In addition, Friedrich-Niethammer-Strasse in Heilbronn was named after him.

Friedrich Niethammer Foundation

The Friedrich Niethammer Foundation , which was founded after his death and named after him, primarily supports school projects in Heilbronn that are intended to help improve the living conditions of children and young people. Niethammer's widow Ursula Niethammer is the chairwoman of the foundation's advisory board. One of the foundation's largest projects was to support the Arbitration House of the Helene-Lange-Realschule with a total amount of 12,000 euros over several years until 2005 . In 2008 the foundation supported the SüdstadtKids project with 15,000 euros .
