Friedrich Oberdoerster

Friedrich Oberdoerster (born December 22, 1915 in Opladen ; † March 8, 1984 in Berlin ) was a German microbiologist and hygienist . He was president of the "Society for the entire hygiene of the GDR".

Life

The son of a painter learned the trade of a businessman after attending elementary and high school and then worked in the profession. He was a member of the KJVD and joined the Wehrmacht in 1937 as a conscript . From 1939 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier in the medical service. As a spear and senior medical sergeant in reserve hospital 101 in Frankfurt (Oder), he procured weapons for communist resistance fighters towards the end of the war and was briefly captured by the Soviets in April 1945.

At the end of July 1945 he was released into the Soviet zone of occupation in Germany, came to Berlin and became a member of the KPD . From August 1945 to 1946 he worked as a management clerk in the German Central Administration for Health Care in Berlin. In 1946 he became a member of the SED . From 1946 to 1951 he studied medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. From 1951 to July 1954 he was head of the medical faculties department in the State Secretariat for Higher Education. On August 1, 1954, he began training as a specialist in the Hygiene Institute at Humboldt University and was recognized as a specialist in hygiene and epidemiology in 1958.

In 1957 he became a member of the German People's Police (DVP), initially as head of the medical services department in the riot police command . From 1959 to 1970 he was head of the Medical Services Administration of the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) (successor to Joseph Rubens ). During this time he was promoted to colonel in the medical service VP and qualified as a professor in 1963. In 1964 he was appointed lecturer and professor for medical epidemiology at the Humboldt University and from 1966 to 1971 he was a part-time professor at the University of Rostock .

From 1970 to 1981 he was director of the State Control Institute for Serums and Vaccines and from 1973 to 1984 President of the Society for the Entire Hygiene of the GDR.

Private

Oberdoerster was the son of the KPD functionary Ernst Oberdörster . He was married and the father of two sons. He was buried in the Berlin-Adlershof cemetery.
