Friedrich Petersen (born August 18, 1807 in Hoyer , † May 14, 1859 in Saarbrücken ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Friedrich Petersen was born as the son of the preacher Christian Petersen, who died in 1818 . In 1826 he moved to Kiel University to study theology, worked a few years after completing his studies as a private tutor and finally passed Gottorp his official theological examination in 1837 . In the following year he was installed as a preacher in Uck ; he was transferred to Notmark in 1846. On April 3, 1848, however, he was removed from office there by the Danish government for his political behavior and was sent to prison. Shortly afterwards he was released and on January 3, 1849 he was able to take up a preaching position again, this in Ulderup . It was thanks to the Schleswig-Holstein government that he was allowed to accept the position, but when the Danish government came back to power, Petersen was fired again on January 7, 1850. Shortly afterwards, the Schleswig-Holstein governor hired him as field preacher in the Schleswig-Holstein army; he held this position until February 27, 1851. Then he had to leave his homeland, but found accommodation in Saarbrücken and became pastor of St. John's Church there.
