Friedrich Reinhard Ricklefs

Friedrich Reinhard Ricklefs (born October 26, 1769 in Ovelgönne , † February 12, 1827 in Oldenburg ) was a German classical philologist and grammar school director.

Life

Friedrich Reinhard Ricklefs was born as the son of Anton Christian Ricklefs, winter preacher and Latin teacher at the school in Ovelgönne, and his wife Lucia Cornelia, b. Maes, born.

His father taught him until he was 15, until he attended grammar school in Oldenburg from 1784 to 1787 under the rector Johann Siegmund Manso (1731–1796). In autumn 1787 he began his theology and philology studies at the University of Helmstedt .

In 1791 he received his doctorate in philosophy and began to give lectures there and to give lessons at the local pedagogy . In 1792 he was appointed as sub-principal at the Oldenburg grammar school . He became professor and vice-principal there in 1800 and from 1811, as successor to Christian Wilhelm Ahlwardt , he worked as rector until his death , during which time he showed himself to be a courageous advocate of his educational institution during the French occupation.

Since 1794 he was married to Katharina Elisabeth Meinardus, together they had three sons and five daughters.
