Friedrich Schauer (architect)

Friedrich Schauer , known as Fritz Schauer , (born January 29, 1913 in Berlin ; † April 6, 2007 there ) was a German architect and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Schauer trained as a cabinet maker in Berlin from 1927 to 1931 and graduated from a carpentry school in 1937 as a foreman with authorization to train as an apprentice. In 1939/1940 he graduated from the specialist department for room technology and in 1941 passed the state examination as an architect.

Already politically active as a youth, he worked in the resistance against National Socialism after 1933. He was arrested on September 1, 1933, and sentenced on November 28, 1933 by the Berlin Higher Regional Court for preparation for high treason to two years in prison, which he served until September 28, 1935 in the Cottbus youth prison. In 1936 he took part in the formation of a student resistance group at the Berlin School for Room Technology and Design. In 1940 he joined the anti-fascist discussion and training group around Wilhelm Schürmann-Horster , who met regularly in the studio of the Berlin sculptor Ruthild Hahne in Wilmersdorfer Nachodstraße and who was in contact with the Red Orchestra . He was involved in the sticky notes campaign against the propaganda exhibition The Soviet Paradise .

On October 23, 1942 he was arrested again in connection with the investigation against the Rote Kapelle and on August 21, 1943 by the 2nd Senate of the People's Court in the proceedings against Wilhelm Schürmann-Horster u. a. Sentenced to eight years in prison and eight years of loss of honor for preparing for high treason . As a contemporary witness, Friedrich Schauer reported on his experiences during the arrest and conviction in a documentary made in 2004 about the sportsman and communist Werner Seelenbinder, who was executed by the National Socialists . On April 27, 1945 he was freed from the Brandenburg-Görden prison by the troops of the Red Army .

After 1945 Friedrich Schauer was busy with the reconstruction of the school system in the Soviet occupation zone and later in the popular education of the GDR . So was z. B. the boarding school of the pedagogical school for kindergarten teachers in Luckenwalde , today's dormitory of the upper school center of the Teltow-Fläming district , built according to the design by Schauer.

After 1961 Schauer worked as an architect at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR .
