Life

The son of the tax officer Carl Friedrich Hensel and his wife Johanna Rosina was employed as a clerk at the court in Kamenz after attending primary school . Benefiting from municipal patrons, he was able to attend grammar school, which he followed from 1820 to 1823 to study law at the University of Leipzig , where he was a member of the Corps Lusatia . As a legal candidate, he initially took up a position with the lawyer Lehmann in Bautzen , which he held from 1823 to 1827. After he had settled in Kamenz as a lawyer, he took over the office of city judge in 1838 and finally became a judicial officer in 1839. He was a member of the Second Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament in 1839/40 as well as in 1845/46 and 1847 as a member of the 19th urban constituency. During this time he acted as secretary to the chamber. He was also a member of the deputation for church affairs . His contemporary Bernhard Hirschel counts him among the liberal members of the state parliament.

In the 23rd Saxon electoral district (Neustadt-Dresden) he was elected on May 13, 1848 as a candidate of the German Association in the first ballot with 54 out of 94 votes for a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly. From May 19, 1848 in Frankfurt, he joined the Deutscher Hof faction . Because he was recalled by the Saxon government, he returned to Saxony on May 21, 1849.

Hensel remained a judicial officer in Kamenz until 1855 and was then appointed as the district court director there. In 1857 he was made an honorary citizen of his hometown. From 1860 to 1868 he was finally district court director in Bautzen.

His younger brother Adolf Ernst Hensel (1811-1862) was also a lawyer and politician, who was President of the Second Saxon Chamber in 1849 and was also a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly.
