Friedrich Ulrich Gross
Friedrich Ulrich Gross , also Fedor Iwanowitsch Gross , Russian Фёдор Иванович Гросс (born January 30, 1729 in Stuttgart , † July 4, 1796 in Hamburg ) was a German diplomat in Russian service.
Life
Gross came from a family in Württemberg and attended the University of Tübingen . Supported by his uncle Heinrich Gottfried Gross , who was then the Russian ambassador to the Prussian court in Berlin, he entered the diplomatic service of the Russian Empire in 1750. After completing diplomatic training and working as a legation secretary in Berlin , Dresden and The Hague , he was transferred to the embassy at the court of St. James in London in 1764 , where he served briefly as chargé d' affaires and head of mission after his uncle's death .
On January 29, 1767, under Empress Katharina II , he was appointed Minister-Resident of the Lower Saxon Reichskreis based in Hamburg, from 1779 onwards with the rank of extraordinary envoy and authorized minister , plus accredited to the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . He remained in these offices until the end of his life.
