Friedrich Wilhelm Kalau von dem Hofe (born March 27, 1810 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † October 24, 1874 in Ohra near Danzig ) was a German squire and member of parliament.

Life

His parents were the businessman Johann Heinrich Kalau vom Hofe (* October 8, 1754 - November 18, 1827) and his wife Charlotte van Dycke (* July 15, 1775 - June 13, 1824).

Friedrich Wilhelm Kalau von dem Hofe received his first scientific education at the Burgschule in Königsbgerg. He then studied at the Albertus University in Königsberg , initially law and later history and philosophy. On June 14, 1830, he was one of the 12 founders of Corps Masovia alongside Orlando Gortzitza , Friedrich Bergenroth , Ludwig Schadebrodt and Julius Czwalina . He then lived abroad for a few years, after which he was active in literature and wrote several scientific treatises. He received his doctorate on October 4, 1844 under Professor Dr. Ferdinand Burbach as Dr. phil. In 1849 he settled on his property in Ohra near Danzig. In the same year he married Malwine Riedel (* May 4, 1829, † September 11, 1859), daughter of the manufacturer Riedel from Wischwill. The marriage was childless. Here Kalau first dealt with science and later with politics. As early as 1850 he was elected as a representative of the German Progressive Party by the Danzig district as a member of the state parliament. He was an inheritance school owner in Ohra and represented the constituency of Danzig 2 in the Prussian House of Representatives from 1862 to 1867 . He later lived in Berlin. He died as a pensioner at the age of 64.
