Friedrich Wilhelm Knoebel
Friedrich Wilhelm Knoebel (born March 3, 1802 in Kirchheimbolanden , † November 8, 1871 in Biel ) was a German educator , revolutionary and publicist .
Life
Born as the son of the reformed school teacher Jakob Knoebel from Monzernheim , Friedrich Wilhelm Knoebel attended grammar school and lyceum in Speyer and studied theology and philosophy at the universities of Heidelberg , where he was a member of the Corps Rhenania Heidelberg , and Erlangen from 1820 . In 1824 he became a private teacher in Mannheim . In 1824 he passed the exam as a ministerial candidate. In 1826 he became a preparatory teacher in Dürkheim. In the 1830s Knobel rose to become one of the leading representatives of the liberal movement in the Palatinate . He took part in the Hambach Festival in May 1832 , on July 22, 1832 he was the Palatinate deputy when the new Central Committee of the Press and Fatherland Association in Frankfurt am Main was being established, and in 1833, in the run-up to the Frankfurt Wachensturm, he acted as a contact between the Frankfurt Liberals and the latter Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart.
Because of his anti-state activities, he was dismissed from school service beforehand. After the failed Frankfurt assassination attempt, Knoebel fled to Basel and Zurich in April 1833 and found a job at the city school in Murten . In 1833 he temporarily returned to the Palatinate, but went back to Switzerland in 1834 and became a senior teacher, initially at a school in the canton of Zurich, in 1835 in Reinach in Aargau, and in 1842 in Lenzburg. From 1842 to 1847 he was finally teacher and rector at the district school in Zofingen and from 1847 principal teacher and rector at the district school in Schöftland . In 1860 he retired and moved to Biel, where he took over the publication of the Bieler Kurier , one of the most important Swiss newspapers of the time.
