Friedrich Wilhelm Meves (born April 14, 1814 in Delligsen , † April 9, 1891 in Stockholm ) was an ornithologist .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Meves first trained as a pharmacist and then studied at the University of Kiel . At the Naturhistoriska riksmuseet in Stockholm he got a position as a conservator in 1842. He was married to Ida Lappe (1812–1890), who translated "King Fjalar" by Johan Ludvig Runeberg into German.

Dedication names

Mevesglanzstar ( Lamprotornis mevesii )

In 1856 Johan August Wahlberg (1810-1856) dedicated the specific epithet of Mevesglanzstars to him , which he described under the Basionym Juida Mevesii . Today it is carried under the scientific name Lamprotornis mevesii .
