Friedrich Wilhelm Oetter (born February 2, 1754 in Linden , Middle Franconia ; † November 11, 1824 ) was a German Protestant pastor and local historian .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Oetter was the eldest son of the Protestant pastor, historical researcher and numismatist Samuel Wilhelm Oetter . After graduating from the University of Erlangen with a degree in theology , he became his father's vicar in 1776, his father's adjunct in 1780 and in 1789 received his parish in Markt Erlbach . Like his father, he was interested in special topics in history. Among other things, he published a chronicle of the city of Markt Erlbach. His 1802 publication of the Marienlieder by the Tegernsee abbot Werinher, who as a monk took part in a crusade around 1157 and reached a very old age, is considered an important contribution to cultural history . The manuscript came from Schilter's collection of manuscripts and was sent to the Reichshofrat v. Senkenberg and from his son to Samuel Wilhelm Oetter. Friedrich Wilhelm Oetter sold it in 1819 to the privy councilor and later Minister of State v. Nagler, and from this it came into the possession of the Prussian state. Another noteworthy publication by FW Oetters is the biography of his father. He did not comply with the public request that the letters from his father's correspondence be published.
