Friedrich Wilhelm Rohde

Friedrich Wilhelm Rohde (born December 11, 1856 in Altona , † April 6, 1928 in Gentofte ) was a Danish violinist and composer .

life and work

From 1873 to 1876, Rohde studied violin with Ferdinand David and Henry Schradieck and piano with Julius Röntgen and composition with Ernst Friedrich Richter at the Leipzig Conservatory .

From 1878 Rohde worked as a violinist in Chicago , and from 1886/1887 in Boston . From 1878 to 1886 he was a member of the Balatka Quintet in Chicago and Boston. In Boston he also appeared as a teacher at the New England Conservatory and was a member of the symphony orchestra. Following his US activities, he worked in Hamburg , Schwerin and, from 1914, in Copenhagen .

Rohde composed, among other things, Waldstille and Elfenreigen ( op.11 ), a serenade for string orchestra (op.14), the piano trio in F minor (op.21), piano pieces, songs, canonical duets with piano (op.26), male, Women's and mixed choirs.
