Friedrich Wilhelm Siegmann

Friedrich Wilhelm Siegmann (born February 23, 1801 in Leipzig , † 1872 in Dresden ) was a Saxon major general and author.

Life

He was the son of the Leipzig Court of Justice Dr. Siegmann and, after attending school, went to the Bergakademie in Freiberg from 1816 . From 1819 he studied law at the University of Leipzig .

In 1822 Friedrich Wilhelm Siegmann became an auditor at the Freiberg Mining Authority, but the following year he switched from administration to the military and on September 1, 1823, became a portepée junker in the guard regiment of the Saxon Army . In 1824 he was promoted to Sous-Lieutenant in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, in 1840 to First Lieutenant, and in 1841 to Rittmeister and Chief of Economics. In 1842 he was promoted out of turn to major and appointed department head in the War Ministry in Dresden . In 1846 he was again appointed lieutenant colonel and general manager of the army in the war ministry out of turn.

In 1850 Siegmann fell ill as a result of overwork and resigned from the ministry in the army. From 1751 he served with the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, of which he became a colonel and commander. In 1857 he retired because of poor health. After a year in Switzerland, he settled in Dresden in 1858, where he devoted himself to scientific studies and produced several papers. On the occasion of the golden wedding of the Saxon King in 1872 he was appointed major general, but died a little later.
