Scientific achievements

Porsche developed breeding and series testing procedures for particularly high-yielding baking wheat varieties by selecting the best combinations of yield, winter hardiness, disease resistance, outgrowth resistance and quality. He bred 23 winter and three summer wheat varieties with a wide range of cultivation at home and abroad.

By breeding the winter wheat variety “Alcedo” (1974), he made it possible for the GDR to supply itself with winter wheat of high baking quality. He created the breeding basis for an extensive production of top quality baking and mixing wheat for the GDR's own needs and for export.
