The fresh green sedge ( Cyperus eragrostis ) is a species of the genus of the sedge ( Cyperus ) within the family of the sour grass plants (Cyperaceae). It comes from South America and is a neophyte in Europe .
description
The fresh green Zypergras is a perennial herbaceous plant that can be herbaceous under unfavorable climatic conditions and usually reaches heights of 40 to 60 centimeters. It has no runners . The bare stems are round to rounded triangular in cross-section. The 4 to 8 millimeters wide, grass-green ones. bare leaves can be flat or V-keeled in cross section.
The inflorescence consists of three to ten ears , each 2.5 to 5 centimeters, seldom longer stalked. Below are four to eight horizontal to slightly ascending bracts that are significantly longer than the inflorescence. The up to 10 centimeters long stalked ears are spherical and usually consist of 30 to 50 spikelets . These are elongated oval, about 3 millimeters wide and 5 to 15 millimeters long and the color is whitish green to, especially at the base, beige or golden brown. The spikelets usually contain 20 to 30 flowers and are flattened and keeled on both sides.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 42.
Occurrence
The fresh green Zypergras is originally found in subtropical South America , in parts of North America and on Easter Island . However, it is now a neophyte in other parts of North America, as well as in parts of Europe , Australia , Asia , New Zealand and Macaronesia . It is believed that the species was introduced into the affected countries as an ornamental plant; it is still occasionally offered in stores today.
In Europe, the fresh green Zypergras is mainly found in the Atlantic and Mediterranean areas at altitudes of up to 500 meters (rarely up to 550 meters). The 1840s are given as the first evidence of existence in Europe. In Germany it was first found in Hamburg in 1854, where it is still found today. It thrives in Central Europe in societies of the Nanocyperion or Bidention associations.
The fresh green Zypergrass grows near open, sometimes wet, muddy, disturbed locations, for example as " weeds " in rice fields, on river banks, pond edges or next to drainage ditches. If there is no such location in the vicinity, drier places on wasteland or on roadsides are content.
