Friso Melzer (born February 27, 1907 in Aurich ; † June 4, 1998 in Reichelsheim ) was a German Protestant theologian and philologist who gained fame especially through his efforts to promote Protestant literature and his reports from India .

Life

Melzer was born in Aurich, East Frisia. He studied Protestant theology. In 1935 he traveled to India, where he worked as a missionary until 1940 . After his return to Germany he worked as a pastor in Adelberg , as a senior teacher in the school service a. a. in Geislingen an der Steige and as a lecturer in teacher training in Baden-Württemberg .

Act

The focus of his work was the interlinking of theology and German studies (draft of a "Protestant Literature") and the attempt to capture the German vocabulary of Christian character in theo-philological dictionaries. In addition, he was one of the first evangelical clergymen who learned from the old church and from Indian Christians to open up new paths to silence, to silence and to listening to God. He encouraged breathing exercises and reading the Bible aloud to absorb God's words more powerfully. He was convinced that only those who could remain silent and were concerned had something to say. By translating and publishing the writings of the Indian Christian and wandering monk Sadhu Sundar Singh , he made him known in the German-speaking world.
