The Fritz Ulrich School Community School is a community school at Karlstrasse 104 in Heilbronn .

history

In the school planning of the City Planning Office Heilbronn from 1963 an overcrowding of the Böckinger Reinöhlschule was determined, as a result of which there was also an overcrowding of the Grünewaldschule . The immediate solution was to build another elementary school in Böckingen. On May 21, 1964, the town council decided in principle to build a primary school on the Längelter . The design provided for a sports hall with a teaching pool and the reservation that the school could be expanded in the event of further development of the surrounding residential areas. The teaching pool was ultimately given its own location separate from the gym. This lowered the original cost estimate of 6.829 million by 130,000 DM. On July 28, 1966, the draft plan and estimate of 6.959 million was approved by the local government. The school was built according to the plans of the Heilbronn building department under the direction of building director Daser and senior building councilor Otzmann as head of the municipal building department of Heilbronn. The first groundbreaking took place on April 28, 1967. After 16 months of construction, the primary school was opened in September 1968 and, after 20 months of construction, the secondary school in January 1969. The construction of the gymnasium was finished in April 1969. On the occasion of the 80th birthday of the Heilbronn honorary citizen Fritz Ulrich on February 12, 1968, the Heilbronn municipal council decided to make a "birthday present to the honorary citizen" and the school within the framework of the inauguration on July 8, 1969 according to the Heilbronn editor-in-chief, SPD - to name politician and long-time Minister of the Interior Fritz Ulrich. On Monday, April 13, 1970, the first teaching pool in the city was opened for operation in the Fritz Ulrich School in Böckingen and was inaugurated on Monday, May 4, 1970.

The school gym was destroyed by fire on November 7, 2012. The cause of the fire was a technical defect in the drive motor of a roof hatch. In February 2014 the municipal council decided to build a new gymnasium, combined with a general renovation of the entire structure of the school. This new gymnasium has not yet been completed. It was also decided to give up the primary school. This is mainly due to the ailing building structure.

Description of the historical building in Böckingen

The following section describes the first FUS building completed in 1968 at the old location in Böckingen.

The buildings were constructed using a “conventional construction method” or “mixed construction method as solid construction” with a reinforced concrete skeleton and brick masonry, a wooden roof construction with Eternite covering and flat roofs with gravel. During the inauguration ceremony, Rector Liebendörfer said:

"The city has shown here that you can build a beautiful school without pomp and marble facades."

The school is divided into a south, intermediate and north wing on a plot of 1.68 hectares.

South wing

The building in the south is the three-storey secondary school with ten main classes and five specialist rooms for natural history, drawing, handicrafts, crafts and housekeeping.

Intermediate wing

The four-storey intermediate building is an entrance building with a covered break hall with administration. In the vestibule of the main entrance of the school, the bronze bust of the honorary citizen of the city of Heilbronn and the interior minister Fritz Ulrich was placed during the inauguration of the school. The bust is the work of the sculptor Wilhelm Hager .

North wing

The northern school building houses the two-storey primary school with eight regular classes and a music hall, caretaker's apartment, gym and teaching pool.

Teaching pool

The teaching pool was given a brick mosaic on its south wall, designed by the graphic designer and city councilor Gerhard Binder . It shows the stylized Böckinger pike , sun, sailing boat and birds.

According to Joachim Kölz, the school's own teaching pool deserves special attention: The teaching pool in the Fritz Ulrich School "sets a counterpoint to the trend towards the leisure pool". Instead of the “confusion” of modern leisure pools, the Böckinger Bad presents “a clear view of rational rigor, true to the maxim form follows function - the form results from the function ”.

Ernst Liebendörfer described the teaching pool as a “gem”, which was given to “the Fritz Ulrich School” and “that his school was the first general school in Heilbronn to have a teaching pool”. It is the first and also the only swimming pool in Böckingen. The first place that the Fritz Ulrich School won in a swimming competition organized by the German Olympic Society and the Union for Education and Science was interpreted to mean that “the success of schoolwork would prove those who, despite the lack of money, were right Would have started building a teaching swimming pool ".

The Böckinger pike served as a model for clinker work.

Prizes and awards

The German Olympic Society and the Education and Science Union organized a swimming competition, with 1,463 schools participating and the Fritz Ulrich School winning first place. The success was interpreted to mean that "the success of the schoolwork would prove those who, despite the lack of money, would have campaigned for the construction of a teaching pool". In the "Youth trained for the Olympics", the Fritz Ulrich School was the best team in North Württemberg. In a student competition organized by the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg in 1993 to promote political education, the school won first prize out of 1843 works submitted, and in 1994 the school won third prize.

Development to a community school

The Fritz Ulrich School is one of the starter community schools in Baden-Württemberg. The community school was very popular and in 2014 it even had four classes. She is currently in three classes at most levels.

In 2018 the Fritz Ulrich School GMS moved to the previous location of the Gerhart Hauptmann School. The Werkrealschule classes of the expiring GHS found a new home in the Wartbergschule.

Public relations and press coverage

One of the school's projects is the ZIG newspaper in the primary school, which the regional television broadcaster L-TV reported from July 27-29, 2007.
