Fritz Brunner (writer)

Fritz Brunner (born February 12, 1899 in Wald , † January 3, 1991 in Zurich ) was a Swiss writer .

Life

Fritz Brunner, whose father died early, first completed his teacher training at the Küsnacht seminar . As a result, he enrolled for a few semesters in Zurich , Grenoble and Florence . From 1921 Brunner was employed as a secondary teacher in Uster . In 1926 he moved to Zurich-Unterstrass , where he taught until 1964.

Fritz Brunner was a co-founder and committee member of the Schweizerischer Jugendschriftenwerk (SJW ) in 1931 and became active as a writer himself, especially as a youth writer . He was also director of the educational exhibitions at the Pestalozzianum in Zurich from 1926 to 1954 . He also acted as President of the Cantonal Commission for Youth and People's Libraries between 1946 and 1968 and was also jointly responsible for around 120 start-ups. In 1952 he was a co-founder and board member of the International Board of Trustees for Children's Books . Brunner, who wrote books for young and adult readers well into old age, died in 1991 at the age of 91 in Zurich.

Brunner's oeuvre includes numerous books for young people, vernacular narratives, and festival and radio plays.
