Fritz Ecarius

Fritz Ecarius (born January 4, 1886 in Kaiserslautern , † June 17, 1966 in Kirchheimbolanden ) was a German administrative lawyer and Lord Mayor of Ludwigshafen am Rhein from 1930 to 1937 .

Life

Ecarius came from a Protestant family of officials. After graduating from high school in Ludwigshafen (1904), he studied law in Munich (member of Corps Makaria ), Heidelberg and Erlangen . In 1911 he passed the Bavarian state examination with distinction. In 1913 he received his doctorate. jur.

After working as a lawyer in Oberhausen , Hanover and Erlangen , he joined the Bavarian civil service in 1920 as an assessor at the Pirmasens district office . In 1921 he was elected to the legally qualified city council of Zweibrücken and in 1928 to the mayor of Pforzheim . On December 8, 1930 he became Lord Mayor of Ludwigshafen. Ecarius was regarded as a non-political “technocrat”, but always appeared in public in loyalty to the National Socialist state . After disputes with the Gauleiter about the introduction of remote gas supply in the city, Ecarius was put on hold in 1937 until his term in office expired in 1941.

Ecarius entered the service of IG Farben as chief legal advisor and head of personnel , where, among other things, he was involved in setting up the Schkopau plant near Halle (Saale). Classified as “innocent” in 1949, he worked as a lawyer in Kirchheimbolanden. As a CDU member, he was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate from 1955 to 1963 .

Honors

On the occasion of his 75th birthday, Ecarius was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. On his 80th birthday, he was appointed judicial councilor by the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of State, Schneider .
