Fritz Herrfurth was born in Bonn in 1899 as the son of a master bookbinder and his wife, but came to Bad Dürkheim as a child. He started his apprenticeship with the Neustadt sculptor J. W. Steger, which he completed in 1915 as a journeyman with a very good exam result. From 1920 to 1921 he attended the arts and crafts school in Munich. In 1928 he settled in Bad Dürkheim at Schreck 22 and worked from then on as a freelance painter, sculptor and architect. During the Second World War , the Wehrmacht commanded him to reconstruct destroyed historical buildings. In 1944 he was transferred to the hospital in Sarajevo as an art therapist . There he died as a result of an infection with the amoebic dysentery , which he had contracted in the hospital. Herrfurth left behind his wife Anna, geb. Back, and a son, Heinz, who died on the Eastern Front towards the end of the war.

A member of the 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division "Prinz Eugen", recognizable by the Odals rune on the right collar tab, presents the grave cross for Fritz Herrfurth's freshly laid grave in or near Sarajevo.
