Fritz Hess (civil servant)
Fritz Hess (born September 8, 1895 in Zurich ; † July 15, 1970 in Uetendorf ) was a Swiss civil servant .
Life
Hess studied law and commercial sciences ( Dr. iur. ) In Zurich and Paris, worked in the economics department and then, from 1924 to 1925, as deputy secretary in the finance department of the canton of Zurich . In 1926 he became head of department in the Federal Postal and Railway Department , later advisor to the Federal Aviation Office . From 1934 he worked in the general management of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), to whose general secretary he was promoted in 1936. In 1940 he was appointed District Director of Zurich. In 1945 the Federal Council elected him General Director of the Post, Telegraph and Telephone Administration (PTT). From 1950 to 1960 Hess headed the Universal Postal Union in Bern .
