Fritz Kwabena Poku

Fritz Kwabena Poku (* 1945 ) is a Ghanaian diplomat in retirement .

education

In 1966 he completed a degree in French at the University of Ghana . In 1969 he graduated from the Université Nangui Abrogoua in Abidjan with a degree in French . He also studied law at the University of Ghana.

He is a Diplomat in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration . In 1983 he was admitted to the bar in the courts of Ghana.

Career

In 1970 Poku joined the foreign service. At the Foreign Office in Accra , he was employed in the departments of Economic Relations and Organization for African Unity . From 1996 to 1997 he was Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana. He was Director of Policy Planning, Research and Protocol, and Information and Culture. From 1998 to 2000 he was chief of protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.

From 2000 to October 18, 2001, he was Ambassador to Addis Ababa and, at the same time, Permanent Representative of Ghana to the Organization for African Unity and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). He was also accredited for Tanzania , Uganda , Kenya , Rwanda , Burundi , Djibouti and Eritrea . From October 18, 2001 to September 9, 2004, he was Ambassador to Bern and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva , the World Trade Organization in Geneva and the United Nations Office in Vienna , as well as the IAEA and the United Nations Organization for industrial development in Vienna ( Austria ).

On August 4, 2004, he was appointed ambassador to Washington, DC , where he was accredited from September 15, 2004 through September 12, 2006.
