Fritz Leitermeyer

Fritz Leitermeyer (born April 4, 1925 in Vienna ; † February 8, 2006 there ; actually Friedrich Alfred Leitermeyer ), was an Austrian composer and violinist. From 1946 to 1985 he was first violinist with the Vienna Philharmonic .

Life

Leitermeyer was born in Vienna, the son of violinist Friedrich Leitermeyer, from whom he had his first violin lessons. After attending school, he studied violin with Franz Mairecker and Willi Boskovsky at the Vienna Music Academy from 1942 .

In 1943 he began with the Vienna Philharmonic and the State Opera Orchestra, where he became principal violinist from 1946. In addition, Leitermeyer was second violinist in the Weissgärber Quartet and Samohyl Quartet as well as a member of the Vienna Court Music Band. He has worked with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra , ORF -Sinfonieorchester, Alban Berg Quartet , Herbert von Karajan , Ludwig Streicher , Christian Altenburger and Wolfgang Schulz .

In the early 1940s he wrote his first own compositions.

Fritz Leitermeyer was buried at the Baumgartner Friedhof (group 20, number 192) in Vienna.
