Fritz Otto (KPD functionary)

Fritz Otto (born November 19, 1902 in Berlin ; † May 3, 1983 ibid) was a German functionary of the National Council of the National Front of the GDR.

Life

Otto, son of a working-class family, attended elementary school, learned the trade of metal grinder and worked in the profession. He joined the German Metalworkers' Association in 1918 and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) in 1922 . From 1926 to 1929 he worked in the agitation department of the KPD district leadership Berlin-Brandenburg and from 1929 to 1932 secretary of the KPD sub-district Berlin-Nordost. In 1932/33 he was an instructor for the KPD district leadership in Berlin-Brandenburg.

From 1933 he did illegal resistance work and emigrated to Czechoslovakia in the same year and to England in 1939 . In 1947 he returned to Germany, became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and was initially employed as an editor in the radio department of the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SMAD). Then he was head of the office of the German People's Congress . From 1950 to 1953 he was a senior assistant in the bureau of the Presidium of the National Council of the National Front and then head of department in the Secretariat of the National Council of the National Front. From 1954 to 1982 he was a member of the Presidium and Secretariat of the National Council of the National Front. In April 1951 he was elected to the Central Committee and the Presidium of the Organization at the Central Conference of Delegates of the People's Solidarity .

His urn was in the grave conditioning Pergolenweg the memorial of the socialists at the Berlin Central Cemetery Friedrichsfelde buried.
