Fritz Polack

Fritz Polack (born October 22, 1892 in Gera , † April 6, 1956 in England ) was a German officer , most recently lieutenant general in World War II .

Life

Polack served as an officer in the First World War . After the war, he was discharged from military service and studied at the University of Erfurt economics . He did his doctorate at the university on the subject of the capital and credit requirements of German industry after the war . Back in military service, he was in command of the 29th Motorized Infantry Division in the Wehrmacht during World War II until the surrender . Under his command, in the final phase of the Italian campaign, the massacre of San Martino di Lupari took place by units of the 29th Infantry Division (motorized). 125 Italian civilians, including young people aged 15 and 16, were murdered in the massacre.
