Fritz Ulysse Landry
Fritz Ulysse Landry (born September 26, 1842 in Le Locle ; † January 7, 1927 in Neuchâtel , reformed , resident in Les Verrières , Neuchâtel and Le Locle) was a Swiss sculptor and medalist .
Life
Fritz Ulysse Landry, offspring of a well-known Neuchâtel engraving family , was born on September 26, 1842 in Le Locle as the son of the engraver Ulysse Landry and Cécile née Jacot. Landry attended the college in Neuchâtel, after which he completed an engraving apprenticeship in the family business. He completed his artistic training first with the painter Barthélemy Menn at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva and later with the sculptor and medalist Antoine Bovy in Paris , in whose studio he also worked as an engraver for a certain time.
In 1869 Fritz Ulysse Landry founded the vocational school for drawing in Neuchâtel, where he taught until 1892. In addition, he worked as a drawing teacher at the Collège Latin and between 1873 and 1911 at the cantonal grammar school.
Fritz Ulysse Landry, who remained unmarried, died on January 7, 1927 at the age of 84 in Neuchâtel.
Act
Landry's artwork includes medals, reliefs , statuettes and tombs, as well as small bronze figures inspired by social themes . For the Federal Mint , he created the Vreneli , a 20- franc gold piece that was minted between 1897 and 1949 and broke with the conventional style of Swiss coins. Likewise in 1910 the 10- franc gold coin, which was issued from 1911 to 1922.
