Fritz Uphoff

Fritz Uphoff (born June 26, 1890 in Witten , † March 18, 1966 in Worpswede ) was a German painter.

Life

After Fritz Uphoff had completed an apprenticeship as a draftsman for glass painting and mosaic, he matriculated at the arts and crafts school in Elberfeld . He later moved to Munich , where he also attended the trade school, but also the Knirr painting school . At the latter he met Aloys Wach , who was also a student there.

Subsequently, Uphoff undertook extensive trips through Belgium , France , the Netherlands and Austria . Many of his pictures, which were created in Worpswede during this time or later, were the artistic yield. Around 1913, Uphoff settled in Worpswede. He married the painter Lore Schill (daughter of the Düsseldorf Art Academy professor Adolf Schill ) and five years later, together with his brother, the painter Carl Emil Uphoff, founded the Worpswede Association for Book Art. He attached particular interest to his landscape etchings and woodcuts. He painted portraits, landscapes and still lifes in oils.

Fritz Uphoff died on March 18, 1966 in Worpswede at the age of 76.
