Fritz Vollmar

Friedrich Emmanuel "Fritz" Vollmar (born October 17, 1926 in Lenzburg ; resident in Münchenwiler and Lenzburg) is a Swiss journalist and environmentalist .

Life

Fritz Vollmar studied economics and political science at the Universities of Heidelberg and Bern . He worked as a journalist in industry, held a leading position on the International Committee of the Red Cross , worked as a businessman and in university administration.

In 1962 Fritz Vollmar became the first general secretary of the World Wildlife Fund, which had been newly founded the year before . During this time he was responsible, among other things, for the establishment of an international secretariat and the development of a network to collect donations from the national organizations of the founding members. For its tenth anniversary in 1971, the WWF had already set up 16 national sections and financed 550 projects in 59 countries. Fritz Vollmar was then committed to the newly created post of General Director, which he remained until his retirement in 1978.
