Fritz Weninger

Fritz Weninger (* 1892 in Rohrbach am Steinfelde , Lower Austria ; † 1981 in Neunkirchen ) was a painter , restorer and curator of the local history museum in Neunkirchen.

Fritz Weninger trained as a primary school teacher at the Wiener Neustadt teacher training college. From 1910 to 1914 he studied painting under Bertold Löffler at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna . As early as 1913 he took part in the International Black and White Exhibition in Vienna. At the beginning of the First World War he was drafted into the army and wounded in Galicia in 1915 . In 1916/17 he had the opportunity to continue his studies with Koloman Moser . He then served as a regimental painter in the Kuk Infantry Regiment No. 1 until 1918 .

After the war he continued his studies in Vienna, at the Academy of Fine Arts with Hans Tichy and Bacher and at the Graphic Teaching and Research Institute with Coßmann. Weninger was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus until 1930 , where he repeatedly participated in exhibitions with graphic works. Since the 1920s he worked as a restorer and from 1937 conservator for lost property in the Neunkirchen district . In addition to his artistic and restoration work, he began to collect graphic works and folk art and between 1926 and 1952 worked as an honorary curator for the Neunkirchner Heimatmuseum .
