Fritz von Bergmann

Friedrich (Fritz) Ernst von Bergmann (born September 17, 1907 in Berlin ; † June 20, 1982 ibid), Dr. med., was the founder, curator , honorary member and chancellor of the Free University of Berlin .

Family and life

He came from a Baltic family and was the son of medicine professor Gustav von Bergmann (1878–1955) and his first wife Auguste Verwer (1882–1923).

He passed his Abitur at the Lessing-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main in 1927.

Bergmann married on March 1, 1933, Munich , the Specialist Christiane (Christel) Hetzer , the daughter of a bank director Dr. jur. Fritz Hetzer and Ella Voss . The couple had five children.

Both spouses were members of the Berlin resistance group Onkel Emil .

During the Second World War he was employed at the Army Weapons Office .

Honors

Bergmann was an honorary doctor of the veterinary and philological faculties.
