Fuad Al-Futaih

Fuad Al-Futaih (* 1948 in at-Turba , Yemen ; † February 28, 2018 in Aden , Yemen) was a Yemeni artist , painter and illustrator .

Life

Fuad Al-Futaih was born in 1948 in at-Turba in the Hudscharija in southern Yemen. He spent his elementary school in Aden and then attended high school in Cairo , Egypt from 1962 to 1967 . After graduating from high school, he first studied English literature at the University of Cairo and later economics and political science in Baghdad , Iraq . In 1972 he received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to study at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , which he graduated with a diploma in 1975. He then studied art history at the University of Cologne . After starting a family and a long stay in West Berlin , he returned to Yemen with his family in 1980. At first he worked in the information and culture ministry in Sanaa , later he was director of the plastic arts department until 1987 . Since his return, he and his wife Ilona have worked on the conception and construction of an art gallery in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. This “Gallery No. 1 “soon after its opening in 1986 as a forum for contemporary art, it was not only known in the Orient .

Fuad Al-Futaih not only worked with oil paints on canvas, but also with the materials silk, wood, metal and paper. His work includes watercolors, lithographs and etchings, but also a 9 × 3 meter wall painting in the sports stadium in Sanaa and a sculpture at the international airport there. His graphics and drawings are u. a. found in illustrations of children's books and other literary works. In Yemeni everyday life one encounters his designs of postage stamps, coins, medals and logos.

Works by Fuad Al-Futaih have been shown in numerous exhibitions since 1970, not only in the Arab world, but also in Europe , the USA and Japan . Al-Futaih has also published numerous books.

Fuad Al-Futaih last lived and worked in Aden.
