Fujimori Seikichi ( Japanese 藤森 成 吉 ; born August 28, 1892 , Kamisuwa (today: Suwa ), Nagano Prefecture ; † May 26, 1977 ) was a Japanese writer and dramaturge .

Life

Fujimori was born in Kakuma in 1892 as the eldest son of a natural medicine retailer. He graduated from the middle school in Suwa (today: Seiryō High School Suwa) and the philosophy faculty of the University of Tokyo . While still studying at the University of Tokyo, he published his first work Nami in 1914 at the suggestion of Kubota Utsubo and at his own expense . Two years later he completed his studies in German studies as the best graduate and married Okakura Yoshizaburō's daughter Nobuko.

In May 1926, the drama Haritsuke Mozaemon ( 磔 茂 左衛 門 , Eng . "The crucified Mozaemon", cf. Sugiki Mozaemon ) was created, which was banned two years later. This was followed by the dramas Gisei ( 犠 牲 , dt. "Victim") in June and Nani ga Kanojo o sō saseta ka in early 1927.

By Nami ( , dt. "Wave"), which he had written during his time at the University of Tokyo, he became widely known as a writer. From 1926 he went on to write dramas, and Nani ga Kanojo o sō saseta ka ( 何 が 彼女 を そ う さ せ た か , dt. "The girl Sumiko - why did she do that?" Cf. film adaptation ) provided a topic of conversation. His interest in socialism grew and he was the first chairman of the NAPF committee . At this time he also campaigned for the publication of Hosoi Wakizōs Jokō Aishi ( 女工 哀 史 , dt. "The sad life of factory workers"). He also stood as a candidate from Nagano in the 16th lower house elections in 1928.

In 1930 Fujimori traveled to Europe with his wife and stayed in Germany until 1932. As soon as he returned to Japan, he was arrested in 1933 for violating the Public Security Act. He revoked his views ( Tenkō ) and turned to historical novels as a result.

After the war ended, in 1948, he moved to Zushi in Kanagawa Prefecture and joined the Japanese Communist Party . He participated in the establishment of the New Japan Literary Society . In addition, he was involved in the civil rights movement Nihon Kokumin Kyūen Kai . Two years later he was the first to publish the magazine Jinmin Bungaku ( 文学 文学 , German "folk literature").

In 1975 a memorial stone was erected on Izu-Ōshima to mark the 60th anniversary of the publication of Nami . Two years later, Fujimori was hit by a truck while walking and died.
