Fumble was a British rock 'n' roll group of the 1970s that specialized in the music of the 1950s and 1960s.

history

The group was founded in 1967 in Weston-super-Mare / England under the name The Baloons.

In 1971 they renamed themselves Fumble and in September 1972 their first LP of the same name was released with cover versions of well-known hits from the late 1950s and early 1960s. In October 1972 they went on tour in Germany as the opening act for Bill Haley , and in February 1973 a US tour with David Bowie followed . Back from this tour, they were guests on March 21, 1973 in the radio program Musikladen produced by Radio Bremen , in which they played three tracks. In the same year 1973 fumble occurred in June in Denmark at the Roskilde Festival , where she headlined were, and in August in England at the Reading Festival .

In 1974 her second LP, Poetry In Lotion, was released, this time with a mixture of well-known pieces from the 1960s and her own compositions. The LP was produced by Shel Talmy , who had also produced The Kinks and The Who . Another appearance at the Reading Festival followed in August 1974. Further tours followed through Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, as well as a European tour as the opening act for Fats Domino in 1976.

From 1977 they played for 19 months in the musical Elvis in London's West End , in which Shakin 'Stevens and PJ Proby also played. They became known to a larger audience through the new edition of the music series "Oh Boy", shot by Jack Good in 1979 and broadcast throughout Europe in 1983.

After the Elvis Musical and the shooting of Oh Boy, Fumble could no longer build on their previous successes as a live band. Their last LP It's Only A Rock'n'Roll Game was released in May 1982 and their last tour of Germany ended in September of the same year. From 1983 they only appeared once a year in England, and since the death of their keyboardist Sean Mayes in 1995 no longer under the name Fumble.

Keyboardist Sean Mayes went on tour as a musician for David Bowie in 1978 and played piano on his Lodger albums and on the live album of the tour "Stage".
